With all of the scams on Internet, I am constantly being asked to validate the company. After this discussion there are some news articles, Better Business Bureau (BBB) Reliability Reports and domain registration information that should put the question of whether we are talking about legitimate companies to rest. If you find some more supportive information online I would be happy to add them; I only have so much time to research.
The reason this topic should be important to you is because, at least in the United States and Canada, you will need to disclose your tax identification number (United States called your SSN or TIN; Canada, your SIN) to sign-up as a dealer with EcoQuest. Note: I will never see your tax ID number if you sign-up online yourself at the EcoQuest International website.
"Why do I need to provide my tax ID number?" Any company in the United States & Canada is required to report your earnings to the respective governments, and send you a form to report this income on your annual tax return. In the United States, the form is called an IRS Form 1099-Misc like you receive for any other sales position (aka independent contractor). As soon as you sign-up as a dealer, you instantly have the potential to earn income. How, you may ask? If someone went to one of your company websites and purchased something, you have earned a commission that needs to be reported.
"Why can't I provide my tax ID number when I earn a commission?" The reasons are too numerous to mention: The Patriot Act, Immigration Act, Internal Revenue Service, etc, not to mention the added time for EcoQuest to chase down the information from the dealer later and update files when it could be collected with no extra effort at time of sign-up.
If you do not agree with my explanations above, I pose the following question. When was the last time you started a new (i.e. legitimate) job as an employee or fully commissioned salesperson where you did not have to provide your tax ID number before starting the job? I rest my case.
Aerus Holdings LLC (previously called Electrolux) is the parent company, and owns DBG Group Investments, LLC, which owns EcoQuest International.
